is 3f black powder too hot to use in a .54 cal hawken i use it in my .50 cal
frontier rifle but not above 90 grns. planning on using the hawkin this year
and don't really feel like travling that far to get 2 fg but if 3's no good guess i'll have too
No. You can use FFFg in a .54 Hawken. Hawkens have stout barrels, and generally will handle pretty heavy charges. FFFg does give higher peak pressures in big bores than FFg does when velocities are equal. But not enough higher to be dangerous or anything like that. If you reduce your FFFg charges to be about 10% lighter than what you use when shooting FFg, the MV will be similar......
