Default RE: Question on the 270 winchester

In the recoil equation the weight of the powder charge carries more "weight' then the weight of the bullet. In theory a 30-06 and a 270,both shooting 150's with the same powder charge "should" recoil the same, but the 30-06 will tolerate more of the same powder with a 150,therefore greater recoil. That's why when people say you can shoot lighter bullets to reduce recoil,I don't buy it. If you load both to the same pressure the lighter bullet loads will recoil the same or even more than the heavier bullet loads,as it will take more powder to get the lighter bullet loads to the same pressure.I've owned a few of each,270 and 30-06.If you are going to have one rifle for all North American hunting, get the 30-06.If you have a heavier cartridge for larger game, like a 300 Win,300 Wtby, 338 etc., and you want a flat shooting deer rifle,by all means get a 270.But I certainly wouldn't use one as an "all 'rounder".
