Fora beginner I would suggest a small frame revolver like a Ruger GP-100 in a 357mag. Also for self defense the double action will be alot less complicated than a semi auto. When the situation arises all you have to do is pull the trigger and not have to worry about loading the weapon or taking the safety off. Don't spray and pray kill the bugger out right.
