In revolver (price no object) Colt Python in .357. Beautiful gun, superlative cartridge for defense and target. If 800 bucks is too much find a used S&Wmodel 19.
In semiauto (Money no object) A kimber 1911. If 1000 bucks is too much try a Glock 17.
