Planning to purchase a new rifle for Kentucky whitetail and Idaho Elk. Was wondering what to choose? I will only use factory ammo. And I shoot left handed. would like to keep recoil down and still have the power needed.
The 270Win. would be the minimum I think for both deer & elk.
Its' recoil is quite moderate, even light to some.
Better, given elk are on the menu, would be the 30-06 or 7mmRem.Magnum. Depending on the rifle, recoil is again moderate, not much different between these two in the rifles I've shot.
All three of these cartridges are available in left handed models from most major manufacturers. I think Savage probably has more LH rifles available than others.
