Default RE: Lehman Great Plains Rifle.

ORIGINAL: Texas Deer Hunter

I just received a Lehman Great Plains rifle and need some info on it. Can Sabot type bullets be fired from it? Any info would be appreciated.
I have a .58 Hawken with a 1/60" round-ball twist, but it will also shoot a 570-grain Minie ball quite accurately.(Many seem to forget that the Civil War Springfield was rifled 1/72", and was DESIGNED to shoot 535-grain Minie balls!!) I also have two other Hawkens with RB twists that shoot Maxiballs well. I have never tried a sabot in them, as I don't like to crud up my bores with hard-to-remove plastic fouling. Plus,a heavy full-bore size conical bullet will kill very large game like moose and elk quite well when fired from a thick-walled Hawken-type barrel with a heavy charge!
