Rod, The statelands around here aren't really too bad. M/L season seems to get more & more popular every yr. Its nothing like southern tier opener. But you'll hear shots going off quit often. Bowhunting is my thing, so with the added hunters in the woods that Sat. I often find private sections more for safety reasons. But I think I'll give the M/L season a whirl this yr. The 6k cutoff is interstate 81. It goes the west side of 81, and the south bank of the salmon river where they meet is the southern tier line. The sportsman hole is definitly in 6k. There's a small state section just down the road from the sportmans hole, and probably near your buddies place. Its on Towsley rd. Its only couple miles from RT. 13. I've never hunted it, but walked the trail through it before. Has a snowmobile trail that runs through that piece. I'm guessing that might be where your buddies went if was close to that area.
