I'd take that $1,700.00and get your 30-06 bedded and the trigger tuned up by a good gun smith. Then i'd usesome morefor a "top of the line" scope and mounts and ammo, thenpractise, practise, practise!!!!
You will still have $$ left for a "quality accurate" 22 with a quality scope to practise with too!!

Or better yet buy the bedding compound from brownells and bed it yourself. Depending on the gun a trigger job may or may not be needed.Many time simply adjusting them back from the lawyer crazed/public relation/ lawsuit friendly 8 pounds is all that is needed. OBTW, I laugh every time I read the words "qualified gunsmith". Qualified by who? Anyway, there isn't much to these projects that any ,red blooded american, (who is even slight "handy") can not accomplish.[:-]
