Dachshunds are versatile hunting dogs. I tend to treat them as a terrier with a much better nose. I started training my 1st Jagdterrier to blood trail at 5 months. If I were to start now I would start at 10 to 12 weeks. Afew liver drags to get the dog trailing (letting them chew on the pot of gold at the end). I would wait if I were training a pointing dog just because any nose to the ground work makes pointing tougher. I wouldn't limit a dachshund to just blood trailing. They can flush pheasants and rabbits, go to ground and flush foxes, no your friendhas a very versatilehunting dog. One which is very popular in Germany.
