Some people are messy and need the Gut hook knife, Since I've doing it for over 40 years I don't need it.
I have a 4" Vitorinox butcher knife that I place a deer antler handle on, that is razor sharp, and just a touch of the sharpening steel is all it needs, I cape deer and hogs with it, my total cost $4.00 plus my labor to build the removable handle, when it gets beyond thin from sharpening,I just get another blade.
a blade should last you several years.
I use these knives commercially in my taxidermyshop.
