The only thing wrong with "just removeing the bolts" is, if you have numerous rifles of the same brand, getting all the bolts back in the "right action" is a real pain!!

I never had a problem. All the bolts I've seen have the S/N or the last few digets of the S/N marked on the bolt.I store most of my rifles without the bolts in them.. I wipe the boltdown ,then seal them in Freezer bags. Each bag has a number. I made a list showing what number that bolt goes to.It might take a few extra minutes doing this but it stops the riflesfrom getting banged up in the close quarters of a safe.
I really don't see a problem removing the bolts. If you have small children I would trust taking the bolt out allot more ,then trusting a .98 centslock.
