Default RE: Antler Display

This was from a company that went out a business, I believe since they no longer have a website. I bought them about 1 year ago and finally got around to working with it. If I liked it after I tried it and didn’t cost to much I then could build my own. Save me money on taxidermy. Plus my friend had these just laying around, so I thought it would be a nice surprise.

Basically it is 4 1/2” Base Trim that is wrapped around a 5 ½” X 5 ½” x 2” inch block of oak.

This allows you to put a set of antlers with a skull plate which you might need to trim as needed down.

You might have to put some wood underneath to raise the base of the antlers to the top of the box. Then you just screw them in place.

Now the stuff that goes into it has the same directions as plaster of paris. But, it had some type of fiber or pulp in it and I have not had a chance to go by hobby lobby to see if I can find it. If I don’t find it I will still just use the plaster of paris. I can’t see why that won’t work. Or it could have just been old and drew in moisture. Not sure.

Then I just use a oil base stain, sealer, and glued a 1” brass plate on.

The outcome was. Easy, fast, and I like it so my plan is if I kill a buck that I don’t want or can’t spend the money on then I will build my own.

But, I will more than likely do some that one side is replaced with a backboard, so I can hang it on the wall. In that case I would just have to make sure I move the antler forward in the box. Or make a different size box

I also thought about tanning the hide from around the antler and putting on top as the finish product.

Also I thought about putting a hoof print in the middle.

If any one’s has any clue about the plaster of paris let me know.
