I think what you are calling a "holding point" is typically referred to as an anchor point. Many folks start with a high anchor as the result of initially shooting mostly with fingers. Using a kisser button with your setup will lead to a more consistant anchor as it is forcing your head to the same position each time. I cannot see it hurting.
