RE: elk bullets
tda - in addition to what was recommended by cayugad and smithbros; you also might try a 410 gr. Hornady Great Plains lead bullet with a MMC ballistic bridge sub-base behind it. These are available in Cabela's. This has good knock down for elk and can be loaded pretty stiff if you don't mind recoil. Without the sub base, it doesn't shoot well at the higher end of the powder charge scale.
The most popular elk load out here is the 348 gr. Powerbelt ahead of 100 gr. of Triple 7, FWIW. Roskoe.
