BBJ - is absolutely right. The 244(6mm) was marketed as a"VARMIT ONLY" caliber and the barrels had a twist rate that wouldnt stabilize the bigger bullets used for deer, while winchester's 243 had a twist rate that was conducive to both varmit and deer bullets. By the time remington fixed the situation the 243 had such a lead that the 6mm couldnt make up the ground. and he's also right, the 6mm is much better than the 243 when handloaded and a 26 inch barrel is used.
