It sort of sucks when someone tells you what specifically you can shoot and what you can't....thus AR.
Yes, AR has antler restrictions. We also lost 40-60% of our deer herd in the years following the passing of that, which ultimately led to a reduction in deer tags in the past couple to try and bring back the deer herd numbers.
Why is it that there a lot of guys out there that are much more proud of a spike...fork...basket six than they are of shooting a doe? Because it's a tough animal to kill? Nope!
I agree - a smart old doe is harder to kill than a love sick, rutting buck.
That's a mentality that's been instilled from the older gentleman. That 2-3-4yr old doe is probably much harder to kill anyway. They keep passing doe after doe just to shoot an inferior buck. When hunters have this type of mentality, they MUST be told what to kill because they aren't smart enough to figure it out on their own. That might seem harsh, but it's not 1960 anymore.
Everyone doesn't hunt like that, and you know what ? Its not an exact science on how to manage a deer herd. Even when AR didn't have restrictions and our herds were strong yes, it was true we didn't have big antlered deer but we had deer numbers and most people were happy with that. Whats WRONG with that concpet anyway? if the doe numbers are so out of control give extra tags and plenty of people will step up and use them. The only exceptions would be private lands and you cannot regulate them nearly as well as public lands anyway
Older, more mature bucks in the herd is good for the herd. Is that some new concept that just hasn't caught on yet?
Good how ? Explain that one
