Antler point restrictions are flat out retarded. All you're doing is letting fork bucks and small bucks with inferior genetics pass their genes on and shoot out 2 1/2 year old bucks that could grow big. You don't get bigger bucks shot. It's probably worse for your herd. I do agree with thinning out does. Thinning out does is a necessary evil. I love the ideaof earn a buck. It's really a great management tool combined with free doe tags like we have here in the CWD units. The Average Joe Hunter doesn't know a damn thing about deer management other than what he's read on the can in Outdoor Life. most of the information average guys know is pretty vague and basic. I think the state cannot institute a program like Antler Restricions or minimum spread to grow bigger bucks, as you can't make people happy. if a guy wants to whack a fork buck, let him. Deer management should only be done on private land. makes everyone happy.
I find it funny were are getting deer biology lessons from a youngin whom has one doe bow kill to his credit. Look sonny, you obviously got your opinon of AR'sin a magazine article from some one crying sour grapes. I live 20 minutes from PA and we have numerous monster bucks in my area. In case you didn't know the famous Hole in the horn came from a mere 20 minutes from the PA border. Western PA has the potential to produce the same world class deer as Oh, Il, Wi, IA, KS, etc...
AR's have greatly improved PA's deer herd. You wait and see I bet PA produces some great bucks this year being 4 years deep into AR's. Alot of those little spikes and fork horns are now 3.5 to 5.5 years old.
