I grew up catching carp on the susquahanna and we always used dough balls or corn. We just take bread, get it a little wet and form it into balls. It will stay on the hook pretty good and works well. If you are going to use corn get the cheapest stuff you can find. The cheaper it is the more sugar they put in it to sweeten it. I can't count how many I have caught this way. Good luck.
