I think it all depends on the number of deer and the buck to doe ratio in your area. Where I hunt, the bucks have plenty of does to chase after so I have never had any luck with any kind of calling. I have never really scared a buck off, they just look my way, maybe think about it but then keep going on their original course. My friend has called in one or two smaller bucks with a grunt but the big boys don't seem interested. I hunt in Howard and Carroll Counties in Maryland and anybody on this forum can probably verify that you literally trip over does in the woods here. I guess the bucks are smart. Why fight a guy for a doe when you can find a couple more behind the next tree?
