Default RE: 338 ultra mag

What in the world you gonna' hunt in Alabama with a 338RUM?
The 338 would be for the trips back out to Colorado and hopefully other larger game in the future. Not that the rifles that I already have wouldn't do just as good a job as they have been doing. I just don't have a "medium bore" cartridge yet and I hate belted cases unless they are needed, such as on H&H cases.

It DEFINETLY wouldn't be an "Alabama" deer rifle. Although I could kill and gut a deer at the same time. Save me from getting bloody.

Actually I have deeply considered making myself a 338 Lapua but the cost of ammo is nearly a hundred bucks a box. The ultra mags ballistics are pretty much the same but at less than half the cost for ammo.

Yes, I know I need to invest in reloading equipment.[&:]

Better yet, find a good used rifle in something, say like a 30-06, and rebarrel it to
338-06. From purchase, to rebarrel, to bedding, to tinkering, etc., you'll have a birthday
present that keeps on giving!
When a beat up ole standard length rifle comes in the shop I'm gonna snatch it up and turn it into a 35 Whelen. Been wanting one of them for a long time too.

BTW, thanks for the early
