Compounders think that they are in the same little niche as trad bowhutners. They are wrong. And yet - they bristle when crossbow hunters say they are in the same niche as compounders - do you not see the irony there ? Who's not seeing what here ?

I think this quote of yours sums it up best. This is exactly where I see the opposition of crossbows coming from. I actually hear less opposition from trad shooters I know then I do from compound hunters. It seems the "old school trad community" if you will, has experienced one revolution already and are accepting crossbows as the progression of the sport, while a large number of "modern bow hunters" see it as an end all. It is not an end all. It will be in time, a pivital point in bowhunting where the sport is strengthened to a new level.
