OEH - can you get the gun to duplicate the problem (without a round in the chamber, of course) ? My wife's uncle had this happen with his .264 Win. BDL about 15 years ago. I could never get it to let go in the shop. I still wonder if he didn't bump it with his finger inadvertently. I know it is possible for a Remington to fire when you push the safety off, though; from what I have read. But I have had maybe a thousand or more through my shop in 30 years. Never actually seen it in person.
