I have hunted on public land where we left our stands out everyday. We used a heavy duty bike cable with combination locks. All of our locks were the same so if you wanted to hunt a different stand you could. You could have trouble if you left it out over a period of time while you weren't out in the woods ie. weeks. I would be more worried if it was a blind, because most guys aren't looking up in trees anyway.
