I bought a savage model 99 in 17 hmr and it makes funny groups. At 100 yards it will make one group into two. One 5 shot group will make two groups. Sometimes 2 will be in the bull and 3 shots will be 2" high and 1" to the right. This happens almost every time I shoot at 100 yards. Both groups are small less than an inch but the over all group is around 2 1/2". I know this gun will shot better than that I just dont know what is causing this to happen. Could it be the scope? Its a 5 year old bushnell Trophy 6-18x40. That scope was on my Beeman rx-2 air rifle for the last 5 years maybe its gone bad. Any help would be great.
Remember that the .17 hmr can be effected by wind. You may shoot 3 times in the same wind, then the wind shifts, and the other two shots goup together somewhere else.
