The 6MM can achieve some impressive velocities with handloads. In my opinion one of the best factory loads for the 6 is the Federal Premiium 100 gr. Nosler Partition. I owned a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight for several years and took a number of deer with the gun. I can attest that the Partition will completely penetrate a deer's front shoulder out to at least 180 yards. I say this because I have shot a number deer out to that range and through the shoulders anchors them on the spot.

The only problem I had was my rifle was a short action as yours is. If you are going to handload just seat the bullets out as far as the magazine will allow. You still will not be able to get close to the lands but I still had no problem finding an accurate load.
