Amosgreg, theoretically your right, but in reality your wrong, here's why, just from your example...
Eventually John has no income as everyone is copying his CD's.
Everyone is a big word, in reality the vast majority wouldn't ever copy his CD, just a small percentage. Especially with a predator CD, like this, which the type of people who would want it, would not burn it because they they don't have the knowledge or capabitlities to do so.
If we're talking about the same reality set as your example then how about this one, which is a closer to reality than yours.
John is the owner of Jonny Stewart Company.
He makes calls, accessories, players, and a large variety of predator hunting stuff. And makes a great amount of money from it.
Dave down the road, tries to make ends meet with a small amount of land to farm but also is a professional trapper and furharvester, and that is his main income.
With fur prices low as they are he puts in as little money as he can it in because he doesn't have any to spend, so he ask his buddy to burn some CDs for him. Dave saves $100 in money he didn't have so he wouldn't be bankrupt while John down the road isn't hurting one bit because he has money coming in from all sorts of products rather than just his CD calling tapes. He actually is having more money come in from his calling players because people are buying now buying them because they are able to save money on CD's and spend towards a player.
Yes, ASCAP and BMI are trying to crack down on these sites, just like they have been trying to do for a long, but if you think they're fine every person that uses the site, all you're doing is misleading people. The people who will get in trouble are the people in charge or the sites, not the users.
If you're against these sites, thats cool, it's just not for you then. If you want to discuss this further take it to PC Tech forum, it's been discussed there before, and will have more responses, otherwise lets keep this
on topic. I gotta get back to class. LOL..
