Ok, I just responded to the "most embarassing moment" thread, and thought I'd start one, where we could possibly redeem ourselves.
I've made some good shots on deer, though none spectacular with a bow. One time I was hunting with two others, and we had a motorhome we had parked back in the woods. I was the last to get back to "camp" and as I walked into the area, a ruffed grouse flew into an apple tree, 20 yds away. Just then, the two other hunters came out of the camper and both asked "how'd you do?" I still had my bow in my hand, and signaled them to be quite. I took the oldest arrow out of the quiver, drew and released into the middle of the apple tree, and made a perfect shot on the bird. In a puff of feathers it fell to the ground.
Mind you, I'm not a "great shot" but had a very clear shot at the bird, and was very comfortable with the shot. We had fresh grouse with lunch. Still, these guys talk it up every year about that shot, they tell it like I'm Robin Hood or something, which of course I'm not.
