I hunt public land about 90% of the time here in Maryland. It's hard to find private land that you can hunt due to several reasons:
Land development,
Tree huggin land owners,
Other hunters leasing land,
Property owners that have been burned by hunters in the past.

I have not had any problems harvesting deer on public land. Last year I passed on several dozen shots because I was hunting a big 10 point but never got a shot at him. In Howard County, Maryland, there is an unlimited doe tag so I think I will be donating a lot of meat to the FHFH this season.

I am also lucky that I have a friend who owns 11 acres surrounded by woods and farms. We can hunt on his neighbors 20 acres with bow only and have to be out by 10am but it deffinately is nice to have the extra acres.
