Best venison I've ever had, too. Juicy and not too lean. I made a lot of sausage out of him and the ground meat had absolutely no smell to it. Most venison has a little bit of that musky smell. My old mad thinks it's because the deer bled out totally before he died. By the way, we saw a few bucks that would easily break the 200lb mark this year. I don't know why - maybe Alt's plan is working but we're on private property where there itsn't even 1 buck killed per every 100 acres each year. Maybe they've had a couple of good food years. They may also be feeding at the farms on the bottom of the mountain all year and come up to our place for the rut. Lots of does on that mountain. Here's what he looked like gutted - but whole.
