Robert, you may get a hundred responses to this, but in the end, it's really comes down to how well you handle felt recoil. Some folks flinch when shooting a .243, while others can shoot big magnum calibers without any trouble. It really depends on how well the gun fits you, how its loaded, bullet weight etc.. I don't know why you're thinking of switching to the 7Mag, but if the 270 does the job, then why fix something thats not broken. just my .02
