RE: 7mm Rem. Mag recoil
You will definitely notice the recoil from a 7mm Mag but it isn't going to kill you. It will hit you a bit harder than a .30-06. As with any centerfire rifle you should be careful to ensure adequate eye relief so the scope doesn't belt you.
If you shoot more than a few rounds of any centerfire, a recoil shield of some sort is a good idea. It not only helps avoid a flinch, it will also help prevent cumulative damage to your rotator cuff. I like the PAST recoil shield, which straps onto your shoulder.
Recoil control isn't about being sissy or macho, it's about managing your accuracy potential and preventing soft tissue damage.
