3x9 or 2.5/3.5 x 10 IMHO, just never seen the need for really less than 4 power and I use the upper end of the mag for range and longer shot application so I find it to be more useful than the bottom end mag. However I haven't really found any benefit to going with 4x14 style, even my varmit rifle right now wears a 3x10!
