RE: 12Ga shot gun recomendations?
Toy4x4,
Good advice through out. I did the same search a few years back. I found that you really can't go wrong with any of them. There are slight differences but no major differences in quality. If you want one gun for versatility (i.e., waterfowl, turkey, dove, skeet, etc) go with Moss 835 or Rem 870 supermag. I've found that the Rems and Wins (no one has mentioned this one yet) track a little better than the Mossbergs. I've not shot a Bennelli but just from what I've heard and read, I would not hesitate to buy one. The Win 1300 is supposed to have the smoothest action. I've shot my friend's and it is noticabley smoother than the Moss or Rem. Moss (both 500 and 835) are know for having very conveniently located safety and slide release. Rem 870 has tons of readily available parts and modifications.
I would suggest that you shoot some of your friend's guns and spend some time in the gun store holding them. When you compare them side by side you'll notice that they might point differently for you, that the ergonomics are different and that some feel lighter than others. You'll pick up on the small differences. Remember that once you start shooting it you'll probably shoot it more and might expand beyond its original intended use.
For the money you really can't go wrong with the Moss 500 or Rem 870. I've even heard very good things about the pardner pump that is made by Norinco and is cheaper than the Moss. Moss also makes the Maverik which is lower end than the 500 but is still reliable and a decent gun.
Test 'em out and get the one that checks the most boxes on your list.
By the way - I drive a 4 Runner as well and I shoot a Moss 835
