Randy-

Yes, Bowtech is king of speed, no question there, AND yes, some of their bows are very shootable, the Pro 40 is a good target bow, the Mighty Mite is an excellent hunting bow. I wasn't trying to put Bowtech down, simply the overall "rat trap" design. A bow with 5.25" of brace just doesn't make it into anyones accuracy book, sorry. Most EVERY other bow on the market will be more forgiving. I do not personally know of another bow on the market today other than the Black Max Mathews that has such a short brace.(unless I missed one or two) It's a dinosaur design from the true "rat-trap days" when bows like the G-force, Alpine Freestyler twin cam, Hoyt Deviator, Golden Eagle Iron Eagle, etc, etc were around, and everyone was hyped-up with the speed craze. Sure a few people can shoot them,(myself included, I won many 3D Tournaments with them over a short period) but not like a 7+" brace bow in the same persons' hands, this is the bottom line. This was quickly discovered over a period of about 3 years or so, and most of those models faded into history. The Black Max and BK2 are what is left, the BK2 just happened to be released a short time ago, but the geometry is the same as the rest.

You'll notice that Bowtech is re-vamping the BK2 and making it easier to handle, and re-designing that cam to give it more valley so normal people can shoot it without tearing out their shouulder. They also offer it with two brace height options. This is a direct result of shooter input. If no-one griped about anything, they would've kept it the same as the original. Kevin Strother is a great design technician, and knows how far he can go with something, and he watches the trends just as I do. The current trend is split and moving in two ways now---some like the longer ATA with as deep a brace as they can get brace with speed (about 7-7.5" currently) for target applcations(more and more of these bows starting to come back into existence BTW), and hunters are liking a very short bow with deep brace for hunting purposes. Unfortuantely there are a boatload of bows out there trying to cover both sides of the spectrum, landing in the middle with mid ATA bows with shorter brace, and by doing this they actually do not cover either end because they are not as accurate as a target bow, and are not best suited to hunting because of their shorter brace(hitting hunting clothes) and mid ATA. (not as applicable to tight hunting situatons)

There are different bows for different applications, and basically you need two to be able to cover each application to it's highest potential. Using one for all may save some money, but does nothing to give the shooter the best option for each format at hand. It all boils down to what each individual feels they need for each application, and whether they feel two bows or one will do it for them. I do predict that you will not be seeing the 5.25" brace height being offered for more than another year or so tops from any company. Just my own thoughts, P12
