mauser a grunt will stop any deer in it's tracks to get a shot.
If you are blind calling I would go with a doe bleat, this will attrack any buck looking for a lady friend.
If you can see a buck and he is a big boy then I might try a grunt, but if he is looking for a fight he will be coming quick.(I still would try a doe bleat first)
If you see a buck and you know he is not the biggest boy in the area go with a doe bleat, he will be looking for a girl friend, not a fight with a bigger buck. Grunts scare off little/inferior bucks, they are lovers not fighters.
One important note, once a deer is coming your way DO NOT call again unless he starts to head off in the opposite direction.
