RE: Rust on barrel
I was bear hunting on the Alaska Peninsula one time, and a group of 3 hunters came along. The high winds and rain the night before had destroyed there tent & camp, and one guy was shakeing badly from hypothermia (sp?) even after walking about three miles to my camp!!! I was in a broken down shack with 2 other hunters, and we allowed them to move in with us as long as they stayed out of our way.
A couple days later one of the guys was in tears (literally) about the Win. model 12 shotgun he had along that "grandpa" had given him, as it was a ball of rust!
I took a small crumpled up piece of amuminum foil about the size of a large marble and dipped it in bacon grease, (any gun oil will work) handed it to him and told him to get after it!! They all thought i was nuts, but soon he was scrubbing the hell out of it, getting every bit of the rust off it!!! He was one happy camper after learning that one!!! And, NO it doesn't hurt the blueing if used with any care at all.
