That, I think is often the problem with many things. The assumption that it is only about one thing, "banning". There are a great many ways they can make hunting so laborious that many would say, "it's not worth it." It's the nature of government. What ever is in the spot light is going to be touched. The solution is to stay out of the spot light but be ready when you are thrust into it. One of the ways to be ready is not give ammunition away to begin with. People need to be more careful about what they say in public and also have an attitude of "It's none of your dam# business".
