Jim,
ANY crunched spot on carbons is bad news.
As for the scratch, If I was unsure I Would toss it. Most of the time you can flex a carbon and tell if it has a problem. I think I would rather error on the safe side than let a wall hanger get away or worse yet spend the season on the disabled list.
