Default The "Horns" are growin...

This morning (4-29-05) I was calling turkeys and saw a couple of deer at a distance,( perhaps two hundred yards or so) that I assumed were does because their bodies looked so small. They both eventually walked by me at less than twenty yards.

As stated due to their body size I was mildly surprised to find out they were both bucks. One had already formed brow tines and each antler (which was higher than his ears), was already forked again. The other just had a good start on his bases. At present his antlers were almost as tall as his ears and were just beginning to show a branch.

Both carried good mass although I know it is very deceitful at this time of year.

I just couldn't get over how small these guys were. I realize they just came out of winter and a season of rut but our winter here was quite mild. A two hundred pound buck is not at all uncommon here and I have seen a three hundred pounder. These guys looked like they would be lucky to break one hundred and twenty.
