Default RE: Opening Day success

I have tried to attach some pics to this thread, but I'm on the landowner's computer and is on a superslow dial-up (I am too, but not THIS slow). I waited 30 minutes for just one small pic and it never finished. I'll try to attach some when I go back home this weekend.

No problem with the kidney stone jokes here -- I'm just glad it hasn't moved anymore while I've been here.

Tuesday wasn't nearly as eventful--just one gobbler that wasn't about to fly across a very large swamp that I wasn't about to wade!

Wednesday had me set up (unbeknownst to me) within 50 yards of a gobbler and numerous hens. The hens all pitched down around me and the gobbler flew down to other hens under him and went off with them. I debated about going over to a different part of the farm and finally did. When I was close to where I wanted to look, a gobbler sounded off from less than 80 yards!

I had no immediate cover and needed to quickly get on my headnet and gloves while getting over to the closest tree. I also tried to inflate my decoy to divert his attention from me. I was kneeling down to start this process and saw his periscope red head come up over the ridge less than 40 yards away -- CAN YOU SAY BUSTED!!! He was 100 yards away and gaining altitude in mere seconds. Flew across another huge swamp and likely won't fly back while I'm here --a tleast that's what I've experienced there the last few years. Oh well, a buddy is coming up to join me tonight and he'll hunt with me the rest of the week. Hopefully we'll score a few more birds!
