Default RE: Can you wear out a barrel?

Yes,
But one that started in good condition and was always cared for should shoot upwards of 10000+ rounds before wear becomes an issue and perhaps not even then if you started with an excellent bore of good material and are meticulous with maintenance.

My oldest rifle is a T/C Hawken .50 from the early 70's with at least 7000 rounds and the bore still looks and shoots like brand new.

My worst rifle bore I have is a beatup CVA 54 cal that I got used with supposedly over 3000 rounds through it. It was pretty neglected before I got it with some pitting, but I've put 1500 or so rounds through it and and it's now starting to have issues with accuracy. I could lap the barrel and mess with changing rb diameter and patch thickness, but I'm refinishing it to become wall furniture.

One that either was not that great of a bore to being with or one that saw neglect might not make it a couple thousand rounds. Or much much less.
