Default Limed Yesterday - Planting Saturday!!

Well yesterday I put down 12 ton of lime on three separate plots and one existing plot(alfalfa & ladino). I also put down 150lbs of 2-10-40 fertilizer with some boron on my existing one acre alfalfa/ladino plot. My Ag friends and modern farmers were telling me that a little nitrogen will be good for the clover and alfalfa. They also said a little boron will help these crops as well. They were well aware of the old philosophy regarding no nitrogen on clover but still offered the same advice. I am listening to them in hope that their advice will be accurate and my money will be well spent.

I will plow and disc the three new plots on saturday (9/14/02) and then fertilize (10-20-20), seed (Rye & Ladino) and drag the seed in the same day. The weatherman calls for rain sunday afternoon into monday, I sure hope so as this would be great timing. My ultimate goal is to get my plots looking like the pics in FH's post - I may have to high of aspirations - great looking stuff Sean.

Anyone know how long it will take for the fertilizer to help the existing plot of alfalfa and clover? Given that we get some moisture in NE Pennsylvania!

I am anxious to get the jobs complete. I have about 10-12 friends coming to help with this project - lots of manual labor things like picking rocks and picking rocks and picking rocks, did I mention how much we all like to pick rocks. I try to remember "you only get out of a food plot what you put into it"!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions from anyone before Saturday will be greatly appreciated. Yeah I know keep the beverages cold and feed the troops well - hahahahaha!

"Food plottin in the mountains is like viewing a vivacious lady"! It kind of makes everything harder!!
