You are probable right about the dog, in my back yard I have seen a big doe stand my dog down. They can be pritt tuff. I think it still could have been wolves I have had them right in next to me and never know they were there. Once had a hole pack let out within 100ft of my stand and never got a look at a one, lets just say it was a long walk back to camp.
