BIRD DOWN!!!!!
It was do or die this morn! Had some guys move onto the stateland right next to me yesterday, roosted a couple of toms and some hens last night and i knew if we couldn't get em this morn we may not get another chance. We set up on them REAL close, i could see a couple hens in the tree right out in front of me as it was getting light. Got there extra early and got into position as quietly as we could. Began to get light and started hearing some distant gobbles, but nothing by us! That started to make me really nervous, had we got too close and blew it? Finnally heard a bird come down couldn't see it tho and still no gobble. A few tense seconds later and out pops one of the two toms about 40 yrds in front of us. Hunting with my Dad who has never shot a turkey and we really wanted a double so we waited. The hens started to fly down and were landing right by the tom in front of us, like I said, we sat up REAL close to them!! Finally the second tom appeared and they started strutting, they showed no interest in my deeks and i felt they were too close to try and call plus they were moving eaven farther away. So it was now or never! We both cut loose on them and unfortunately my dad was shooting a full choke with 2 3/4 shells and it just wasn't quite enough to get the job done at that range. But mine went right down, it was a 50 yrd shot! Not a huge bird but definately a hunt i will never forget, just wish my dad could have knocked the other one down too, that would have made a great hunt eaven better!

CONGRATS j76 !!!

Today was the first day of my season and I nearly put it together. 3 different Gobblers came by struttin' their stuff for a Hen but they just wouldn't come closer than 60 to 70 yards! [&:]:(TomorrowI made arrangements to hunta different property but I may be back to try for one of those strutters on my own property.

One thing is for certain, the birds are NOT makin' much noise at all. As soon as they hit the ground, a couple gobbles and then stay with the ladies and keep their mouths shut.... . Seems our birds are running a bit behind schedule for this time of year but henned up or not.... I'm gonna stay on 'em and try my best to put some numbers up for Team Full Strut!

Good luck to you guys and gals still hunting and CONGRATS to our Team members that are already on the scoreboard! :)

RE: TEAM #23 - New - need 2 more tho

Congrats on all the birds so far! Season opener is Friday, May 1 and I have the day off from school, yeeha! I can say I know there is a gobble on the land up behind my house, haven't heard or seen him but seen his tracks and poop, seen possibly his hens as well. Went up to some state land this morning and located a gobble....if he survives this youth weekend season, I might try for him. Saw one guy with a kid out but there were a good mile away from where I drove in and found this bird, which was on the same ridge that I shot last year's birds. trying to figure out where to focus my scouting now...

tac126 good luck go and getem, IL-cornfed the turkeys are getting harder to hunt here, they are henning up and there patterns are changing and after they come down off the roost they are shutting up, I hope them turks will close that distance for you other wise you can all ways do a belly crawl on them, lol. Its been a wash out here this weekend rain, rain and more rain, I think we had about 5 inches of rain here over the weekend. I guess it will be good for the morel mushrooms. I cant wait to get my hands on some of them. FF/EMT & MDManiac & turkeygirl2- I know what its like to see everyone out and we are just trying to do our homework, not much longer now, hold on!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF MY TEAM!!! GOBBLE-GOBBLE-GOBBLE....

RE: TEAM #23 - New - need 2 more tho

I've helped friends and family to 5 mature Gobblers and 1 Jake this season but have yet to score in only the couple days I've had to get out with my bow. I've had a couple birds come in close but just couldnt get a bow shot out of the experience. I have had the chance to tag a few Jakes that have come in close for a better look but they are just not what I'm lookin' for on the property. I have a couple days left of our season here in IL so I'm gonna keep at 'em and see what happens.Man, I REALLY want to get one with my Mathews DXT! It gets down to the last day I may break and carry the ol' T/C Encore and see if I can stretch a shot a bit. Good luck to the rest of the Team and CONGRATS to all of you that have scored thus far. One this for sure.... it's been an awesome season indeed!

FF/emt - Great bird!!! Great pics!! Way to put-em down!! Congrats to ya!! Sorry it took so long to congratulate you, I have been real buzzy around here and have not been on the sight for awhile.

My boys got me a tag for Mothers Day so ventured out to try to tag me a turkey, I had alot of action with the birds heard lots of gobbles and they were around me but just they would not close the deal when it gets to 4th season around here it gets to be pretty hard to hunt they get call shy and decoy shy and so you have to play every trick in the book, I went and I came up short that day, but I had a great time it was a great day in the woods, but I did take another bird the other day he was a jake hes not a big bird but I could not be more proud of him I hunted pretty hard to tag out with that Mothers day tag. What a hunt I got a little video and a great stories but I have not got it all put together yet. The seasons around here as of last night now closed!! Now it will be another long 11 months until next year. Wow-I love them turkeys. And I thank God for all of the wonderful gifts and sights I got to see this season!!! I will get a pic of the bird on here as I figure out what is going on with my camera.

Mudchicken-Thanks for stepping up and being are caption and for all you did to keep us in line- Thanks!! I wish everyone who is still out the best of luck to ya and to keep after them!! And to all that their seasons are over - I know how you feel and in 11 months we will give it another shot!!! It was nice to get to know you all a little better and it has been fun reading all of the stories. Thanks for being a part of my hunting season it was fun.

Team Full Strut,

Have been hunting periodicallyduring the PA season. I have had a couple close calls but haven't sealed the deal yet. On 5/11 a buddy of mine that I was hunting withscored on nice gobbler, 10 inch beard 1 inch spurs. It has been a tough season thus far, not much gobbling and a lot of hens in the area. I still have a few more days so I will keep you posted. Congrats to all that have taken birs thus far.

RE: TEAM #23 -"Full Strut"

Alright team, here's my entry: 20 lbs, both spurs 3/4" and a 9" beard. The NWTF calculator scored him at 53.

I filmed this guy on my digital camera on May 8...I chased him basically all week except for 1 day, so I was after him for a good 7 days. Well at 11:21am on May 15, this past Friday, after maneuvering on him for a couple hours, his hen leaving, then him leaving, I set back up and he basically did a loop around this small patch of woods and came down a hill in the field, saw my decoy, heard my little yelps...and at 30 yards the Mossberg 500 20ga Super Bantam with Federal Mag Shok #5s put him flat on his back.:)

I already had posted the photos and longer story in the main turkey room, but hre's for my team! Still have another tag, will try to get back out again...working on planting theg arden and studying for nursing state boards.

TG - use small case for the img thing and at the very end hit return - don't ask me why I just know it works - JW
