Well got skunked saturday didn't hear a sigle bird gobble all morning. So went out this morning the last day of the season. Sat up on a ridge I have seen a few birds on. Day break I hear a gobble about 90-100 yards from me so I thought with th conditions I would hang out on this fence line that joins the woods to a cow pasture facing the downwind side looking over a little windbreak. Heard another bird gobble with it. They stoppped gobbling once they hit the ground but I had faith they would head towards this field. After about 15 to 20 minutes I hear a putt putt to my left and though oh crap. But sat very still and the birds woked around right in front of me about 15 yards away. Let the first one go by jake then the second bird came into view and it was a little bit bigger jake. So being the last day and zero birds shot yet I went ahead and let him have a 3 1/2 to the head. Sorry guys not the big longbeards I have been after but just seemed like an odd season in my area this year. Don't think he will put us over the top though. Oh well bird DOWN. Turkeys aren't easy and they are all trophies!
Thats some good eating you got there, and if someone else can upgrade on their bird you may have put us close enough. We are really close, if Team 8 doesn't score again this will be a very close finish.

If we lose it may be all my fault I'm too honest and usually round things down so as to avoid controversy. I think my double may have scored a bit better than submitted but I had no idea that it would come down to the wire like this.
In any case, if we have anyone still hunting all we need now if for someone to get a bird bigger than their 1st, we are close enough that we don't need a bird from someone that hasn't posted yet.

I call those turkeys superjakes. Not quite full grown but not exactly jakes either. I killed one last year by accident. He gobbled and strutted like a longbeard.

Actually you miscalculated the score.

It is the weight (15.5) plus each spur X 10 (5 + 5) plus beard length X 2 (11). The total score is 36.5. I corrected your post in the results thread.

Our season ended Saturday. I got to hunt once for about thirty minutes.

Not only is it the first time in the last ten years I haven't killed at least one bird.. its also the first season I haven't even heard a bird gobble.

Might help of course if I had a place to go. Hell with it. I'm going back to Hatteras to catch a cobia. Sorry I couldn't contribute, circumstances often dictate results... I have three to four days off a week... plenty of time and money... and still can't find a lease or permission anywhere.

I PM'd Mobuckhunter79 but he hasn't been around at all, but who knows, if he even took a jake we are golden. We are so close but I think I may be the last one hunting? I'll try for a 90pt bird but no promises
