RE: home made deer stands
i just kind of copied a cheap stand i already had, just made the seat and standing platforms bigger, made it taller and a whole lot stronger than anything you can buy. use 1 inch 16ga steel tube and 3/4 inch for ladder steps. used expanded metal for seat and standing platforms and some flat steel for angled braces from seat to standing platform. drilled some holes used bolts to assemble. made it a 2 pc so easy to transport out to the woods and pinned the ladder sections together when upright. used what i had left to build a brace between the tree and ladder so it wouldn't flex. built 6 of these and they have been out in the woods for about 6 years. no trouble at all. just as sturdy as the day i built them. just a little hint drill a few small holes at base of ladder on each side about 4 or 5 inches up. water will collect in them and crack when it freezes. i had to repair one stand a few years back and drilled the others and they are fine.
