Going hog hunting for the first time

Rockport,
Congratulations!!
I'm looking into harvesting a couple feral hogs myself and Oklahoma seems a likely place to go that is not too far of a drive. As it appears you had a great hunt, will you please provide any particulars such as outfitter (if applicable) and cost?

Hogs are tricky to find. Remember that hogs, like most animals, will need access to clean drinking water every day. Instead of tracking where they have been, pay a thought to where they may be going. Don't underestimate the strength of the animal. Especially when they have been shot.
Good luck hunting. If they are anything like the hogs back home you will be enjoying the bacon for months

So we took 61 pigs off our place last year.
Shot placement is key on the big ones. You should head shoot them all. Perfect placement is directly below the ear, right in the middle of the head. Don't get cute and try to shoot the brain, just middle of head, any angle. On head shots you can shoot any caliber. Body shots, I'd recommend above 25 caliber and durable bullets.
This video is a bowhunting shot placement tutorial, but the pigs anatomy is still "weird" if you body shoot them, follow the same advice here - quartering away. Do NOT shoot behind the crease.
