.243 Win. in Weatherby vs. HS Precision

.243 Win. in Weatherby vs. HS Precision
So my lightweight rifle in some .243 caliber I believe the field has narrowed.
The only 2 I have found to be what I want, the weathervby mark v ultralight most likely in .243 win, though .240wby is an option though unlikely.
The other a custom HS precision lightweight, in .243win, though I could have it in anything really. Course this is almost twice the price, and neither I would say is cheap.
Already have 1 weatherby, which I love, just kinda would like a little variety, but I almost feel no reason to need a custom in a .243 at twice the price, not crazy about the action/safety on the weatherby, but also don't hate it.
Is 1:10" twist the norm of a .243? what else would I want to consider? I plan to shoot 95gr bullets, though a 55gr varmint bullet would be nice too, but isn't it usually easier to go lighter than heavier? ie if i wanted to shoot 105gr or for instance 115gr I might want a tighter twist? will a 1:10" shoot 90-95 and 55 well?

Have you considered a New Ultra Light Arms rifle in .243 Win.? I have buddy who has one in .244 Remington, man that is a shooter and loves plain old Remington 100gr Core-Loks. I haven't weighed it, but I bet it doesn't over 6 pounds even with scope, rings, and mounts. For as light as it is, it is surprisingly pleasant to shoot.

Yea I did glance at them, for that price I think I'd just buy a HS, they cost a tad more too. And I dont know about their stock colors, but the ones they show on their website look like a 5yr old spray painted graffiti on them. It amazes me the lack of proffesional web design out there......if I had a site it would be easy to use....show the options easily......that alone is a turn off to me, and I'm sure many others. Or maybe I'm the only one.....I'm really leaning towards the weatherby in .243 win. I believe down the road if I wanted to bore it out to something bigger, 6mm rem or .240wby I probably could as well.

I recently purchased my first high power rifle. It is a Tikka T3 Lite synthetic / stainlessin 243 cal. It is an extremely nice gun and I only paid $519 for it. Although, I was looking at a 243 cal.Weatherby target in walnut and blue and almost bought it instead at $639. I picked the Tikka. Regardless of which 243 you get, I am sure you will be happy.My 243Tikka is so much fun to shoot. Good Luck!

I would do with an HS or a custom. They should be about the same price.
If you wanted to shoot 105's or 115's you would need at least a 1/8.

A standard 1 in 10 twist .243winwill shoot any95 or 100 gain huntingbullet out there. If you wanted to load Berger VLD's or some other custom, very long, aerodynamic bullet then you may need a faster twist. But for bullets like speer, sierra, nosler, hornady, etc... a standard 1-10 barrel will do just fine.

I'd probably stick to factory loads....in 90 or 95gr for the .243 Win. Everything I see seems to be a 1:10" twist. I really wouldn't plan to shoot over 100gr out of it, but possibly as light as 55gr for varmints/coyotes, though I heard someone say stay with 70 or 75 for varmints out of a .243? any truth to that?

Sal, I thought a 223 or larger was considered a high power. The Weatherby Target I saw was at Murf's Guns in Duncan Oklahoma. It had a bull barrel and a wide forend on the stock for laying on a rest. It was a heavy gun so the recoil wouldn't be as bad.

Well I kinda corrected myself when I wrote that....meaning ya any centerfire....is a highpower, I just see that word and think of a .300 ultra mag etc....I was now thinking how a nice .243 win and .300 wsm, you really wouldn't need anything inbetween the 2, I have a .270 though and really couldnt ever justify selling such an accurate rifle, even though its a semi auto and not my favorite, but its growing on me, it was my father's purchase I think I'd of bought a bolt, but really isn't much to knock it for.
