The 308 has been necked down to .243, .260, and 7mm. I'm sure there is a wildcat 270-08. As to not being comercialized, I think it is because it wouldn't really offer much.
The 260 Rem is .264"
The 7mm-08 is .284"
270 is .277" so it would fall right between the two rounds already commercially loaded.
Here is info on the 270-08 A.I.

I don't want to do it, I was just wondering if its been done yet. It seems there are many variations of the .308 case, I thought someone had to have made one a .270.

it's called the .270 redding , of redding dies makers fame , it's the .308 parent case , case necked down to .270 caliber . it's been around as far as i know since the 80's but could be older .

Actually I'm surprised it never caught on given America's love of the .270.

Most everything you can think of has been tried with just about every case in existance. If you want to wildcat just about anything these days, you are going to have to make your own new case. Such as the 300 WSM. Totally new design, but likely based off the success of the Dakota line of cartridges, that are built from the 404 Jeffries (save the .450 that is).
