Default Triple Seven Pellets used in Thompson Omega 50 cal.

I just purchased a box of the new Triple Seven pellets. I was told not to use a 150 grains of this powser as if it will hurt my gun. The Omega is suppose to with stand 150 grains of powder. I was wondering if anyone has used this powder with a a setting of 3 pellets and had any probelems?

I would not use three 777 pellets. Hodgston reccomends using 10% less of the 777. Three 777 pellets = 180 granes of any other powder. Might not be a good plan using three pellets.

Not True Guns457O

Many T/C Encores, Omegas & Black Diamond XRs shoot three pellet (150 grains) very well. Nowhere in the T/C manuals does it say to NOT SHOOT 3 PELLETS. All major ML manufacturers (CVA, Knight, Traditions... etc) allow you to shoot 3 pellets (150 grains) with their magnum rated inlines.

Also, on Hodgdon.com's website, nowhere does it say to lower your powder charge by 10%. It does say that when using LOOSE powder 777, lower your powder charge by 15% in contrast to real blackpowder or substitute powders.

Hodgdon made 777 pellets to mirror Pyrodex pellets in velocity & energy for safety reasons. That is not the case with 777 & Pyrodex loose powder comparisons.

Try two pellets, and see what you think. I only shoot 80 grains when I use 777 in my Knight rifle.

Pellets from all 3 are equal

Loose powder: VOLUME for VOLUME black powder and pyrodex are equal. NOT WEIGHT

777 loose powder is 15% hotter than black powder/pyrodex VOLUME FOR VOLUME (a volume of 85 grains of 777 is equivalent to the volume of 100 gr pyrodex/black powder)

Never use weight to compare different powders.

Hope that clears it up.

Txhunter58, Thanks that ,sure maked it clear, By the way way I noticed my Pennsylvania with 80 gr by vol = 92 gr power was much quiter than 100 gr pellets Pyrodex in my Traditions Evolution inline. Are long guns usually less noisy or was it my imagination?

Less powder and longer barrel probably contribute to that. I have noticed the same thing with my GPR and inlines. 75 gr FFG 777 31 1/2" vs 100 gr FFG 777 25 1/2"and 26" barrels.
